CPTA Town Hall Meeting

This Town Hall Meeting, hosted by the Inland Counties District, is being held to get your input on issues of vital importance to your profession. Topics will include Third Party Administrators limiting access to medically necessary treatment and practicing in a direct access environment. Join us for this interactive meeting. Bring your questions about any physical therapy topic. We encourage all physical therapy professionals to attend. This meeting has been approved for .15 CEUs.

Course Description

This Town Hall Meeting, hosted by the Inland Counties District, is being held to get your input on issues of vital importance to your profession. Topics will include Third Party Administrators limiting access to medically necessary treatment and practicing in a direct access environment. Join us for this interactive meeting. Bring your questions about any physical therapy topic. We encourage all physical therapy professionals to attend. This meeting has been approved for .15 CEUs.

Course Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the laws and regulations that allow direct PT treatment on consumers.
  • Understand mandatory patient disclosures when treating in a direct access environment.
  • Identify predatory third party administrator provider contracts.
  • Calculate costs to deliver care for negotiating provider contracts.
  • Become literate in health service plan terminology
  • Understand provider rights in appealing unjustified barriers to medically necessary PT treatment.

Speaker

Dennis Langton, PT received his B.S. degree in Health Education and Physical Therapy in 1973 from the University of Utah. His post graduate studies include a wide variety of advanced clinical courses in the areas of Manual Therapy, Sports Medicine, Neurology, Craniomandibular Disorders, and Work Rehabilitation and he is a Certified Cranial Vertebral and TMJ Specialist by the American Academy of Oral-Facial Pain. Mr. Langton has presented over 30 post graduate research papers and taught over 100 post-graduate professional courses, both nationally and internationally, in the areas of orthopedics, manual therapy, orthotics and prevention education. He is presently a consultant in head, neck, and facial pain to the Clinical Research Foundation, a Associate Clinical Instructor at the University of St. Augustine, and an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Southern California School of Dentistry. Mr. Langton is co-author of a functional anatomy text on the head, neck and temporomandibular joint and contributing author on two textbooks on evaluation and treatment of CMD. He is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the Orthopedic, and Health Policy and Administration sections. He currently serves on CPTA Payment Policy Committee.
