Bus loads of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants and students plan to attend the 2017 PT Legislative Day! During this event attendees learn about bills in the legislature that have a direct impact on the therapy profession. Attendees receive outstanding advice on advocacy from our seasoned lobbyist and public relations firm. Everyone in attendance meets with legislators and their staff members who represent our home cities. And most of all, attendees experience first-hand what a strong grassroots advocacy program can do!
Please plan to attend the 2017 CPTA Annual Legislative Day on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 and make your voice heard in honor of the physical therapy profession. Don't miss out on a great networking event!
Participants will learn about bills in the legislature that have a direct impact on your profession. You will receive outstanding advice on advocacy from our seasoned lobbyist and public relations firm. You will meet with legislators and their staff members who represent your home cities. And most of all, you will experience first-hand what a strong grassroots advocacy program can do.
At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Identify how a bill becomes law.
- Design a comprehensive legislative strategy for the advancement of the physical therapy profession.
- Schedule meetings with legislators and their staff members who represent your home cities.
Dr. Christopher M. Powers, PT, PhD, FAPTA, CPTA President is an Associate Professor in the Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy and Co-Director of the Musculoskeletal Biomechanics Laboratory at the University of Southern California. Dr. Powers is an active researcher, and has published over 100 peer-reviewed articles. He frequently lectures both nationally and internationally on topics related to lower limb biomechanics and the pathomechanics of orthopaedic disorders.
Stacy DeFoe, MA, CAE is CPTA Executive Director. Named Executive Director in 2007, Ms. DeFoe has been employed with CPTA for over twelve years. Actively involved in CPTA Government Affairs, she continues to play an integral role in the advocacy efforts of the association.
Carl London is CPTA's lead lobbyist. Mr. London has advocated on behalf of the CPTA for over nine years and has extensive experience in grassroots advocacy, public policy and political action committee development.
