Research evidence is accumulating in support of exercise and physical activity as  the core to positive health and aging.  Physical therapists are in a great position to assume leadership to improve the health and wellness of our population by integrating exercise to minimize impairments and improve the quality of life.  Research is needed to enhance the specificity and effectiveness of our intervention.  I started my research career with the help of the PT Fund and I am committed to help other young investigators have the same opportunity for discovery.

The past 20 years have witnessed an unparalleled explosion of new knowledge related to the practice of physical therapy. Much of the success in the scientific domain can be attributed to the fact that the infrastructure to support physical therapy research has grown dramatically. To this end, the CAL PT fund has been at the forefront of this effort since 1977.  By providing funding for emerging scientists and clinical scholars, the CAL PT Fund has played an important role in moving the profession towards autonomous, evidence-based practice.  Supporting the CAL PT Fund is more than just a good thing to do, it is a professional obligation!

On a daily basis, I teach students the importance of using evidence to support their decisions in physical therapist practice.  The public, payers and professionals alike recognize the importance of providing healthcare in the most effective manner possible.  I support the CAL-PT-FUND because it is committed both to adding to the body of knowledge guiding physical therapist practice, and supporting the efforts of emerging researchers.  Support your profession-- support the CAL-PT-FUND!
