Voting Instructions

Voting for all positions is by “preferential voting,” which allows for election by a single ballot, thus making run-off balloting unnecessary when there are more than two candidates for a single position. In this method if one candidate does not receive a majority of first-preference votes, second or less-preferred choices are taken into account by redistributing votes of the least favored candidate.

The procedure to mark the ballot shall be:

  1. The voter shall click the bubble next to the candidate indicating the order in which he or she prefers all candidates for that position.
  2. The vote for any one position shall become invalid when a voter duplicates the preference for that office.
  3. Ballots will be counted in a method of preferential voting described by Robert’s.

Voting Example:

My first choice for the Finance Officer position is:
[X] Candidate A
[ ] Candidate B
[ ] Candidate C
[ ] Candidate D

My second choice for the Finance Officer position is:
[ ] Candidate A
[X] Candidate B
[ ] Candidate C
[ ] Candidate D

My third choice for the Finance Officer position is:
[ ] Candidate A
[ ] Candidate B
[ ] Candidate C
[X] Candidate D

My fourth choice for the Finance Officer position is:
[ ] Candidate A
[ ] Candidate B
[X] Candidate C
[ ] Candidate D

PLEASE NOTE:

  • If you indicate the same preference for more than one candidate for any position, that portion of your ballot will be void.

  • If you do not indicate a preference for each candidate for any position, the ballot may not be counted in a subsequent redistribution.
