This practical and comprehensive course integrates lumbar anatomy, biomechanics, neurology and exercise physiology together. Includes scientific fundamentals and evidence-based knowledge that is essential to understanding impairment and dysfunction. Yousef Ghandour will discuss and demonstrate a progressive approach to training the lumbar spine musculature to improve coordination and stability from a caudal to cranial approach. Lumbar stabilization made simple with segmental assessment of deep lumbar muscle group instability and progression into stability. This unique approach addresses a specific treatment management to deep lumbar rotator. Treatment demonstration and performing Dynamic Soft Tissue Mobilization (DSTM), discussion of exercise progression strategies and culminating in stability, functional mobility and return to sports.
The instructor will utilize manual and tactile techniques, demonstrate home exercise strategies designed to maintain the gains made in the clinic. The participants will be able to take the knowledge learned in this one-day course and apply it immediately to their patients and clients. This course is 30% lecture and 70% hands-on lab.
At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe the anatomy of the lumbar spine, muscles and neurophysiology
- Describe the biomechanics of the lumbar spine
- Identify and describe components of lumbar instability
- Perform Segmental Mobility testing of the lumbar spine
- Perform Dynamic Soft Tissue Mobilization of the lumbar spine
- Perform a limited functional screening of Lumbar spine
- Perform isolated testing and treatment strategies for key muscles contributing to lumbar stability
- Perform treatment progression from unstable segment to functional stability
- Discuss the progression of concentric and eccentric exercise progression
- Discuss positional progression for optimal muscle recruitment
- Return to Sports
