Course Description:
This presentation will provide the most recent evidence related to the diagnosis, evaluation, management and prognosis of patients with post-concussion dizziness. The presentation will describe how concussions can impact the vestibular system and how input from the visual system and proprioception from the cervical spine can also exacerbate symptoms of dizziness.

Lori Ginoza PT, DPT, NCS

Dr. Ginoza received her B.A. in Kinesiology and Leisure at Whittier College followed by her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California. She then pursued her specialization through the Neurologic Physical Therapy Residency program at University of Southern California. She is currently faculty at USC and is also the USC/RLANRC Neurologic Residency Director. She has completed the Emory Vestibular Competency Course, works closely with neurologists as an interdisciplinary team at USC
and has treated patients with vestibular impairments for 12 years with direct clinical mentoring from faculty of the Emory Vestibular Rehabilitation Competency Course.


Course Objectives

1) Identify systems to be considered for a patient who has dizziness as a post-concussion symptoms.

2) Describe how the vestibular system is impacted from a concussion
3) State how impaired input from the vestibular system, visual system, and/or cervical spine can contribute to dizziness
4) Identify treatment options to address impairments contributing to dizziness for a patient who has sustained a concussion
5) Identify consideration when prescribing vestibular rehabilitation for a patient who has sustained a concussion

 

Schedule:
• 6:00-6:15 PM Sign in and Refreshments will be provided
• 6:15-6:30 PM SGV District Meeting
• 6:30-8:30 PM Post-Concussion Dizziness Lecture


Course Registration:
$25 for APTA members/ $50 for non-members
$15 for students and Free for PAC-Cub Members
