Pain management is at the forefront for all rehabilitation specialist. It is known that there are many dangerous side effects of pain medications, and yet they are still a central part of pain management. Understanding how lifestyle can contribute to increased inflammation, poor healing and aggravated pain states is an important part of a good rehabilitation and pain management plan. This course will discuss the problems with current pain management medications, expose lifestyle contribute to aggravated inflammation and pain as well as lifestyles that can promote healing, pain reduction, and reduction of inflammation. The role of nutrition, sleep, sun exposure, and stress management are important to optimize the effect of a good exercise routine.

Carolyn Dolan, PT, DPT, received a Master of Science and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy Science from UCSF/SFSU. She received a transitional Doctorate in Physical Therapy (tDPT) from Mass General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. After many years of clinical practice, Dr. Dolan went back to school and achieved a Master of Science in Holistic Nutrition. She is an active member of American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), Nevada Chapter, APTA and Orthopedic Section, APTA. She is owner of VitaKinetics. Dr. Dolan is a community lecturer related to lifestyle medicine including nutrition, physical movement, sleep, stress management and pain reduction and healing. She also serves as Volunteer Community Faculty for University of Nevada, Reno Medical school as a mentor and supervises rotating residents for independent study related to lifestyle medicine and healing.
