One in three children with cerebral palsy (CP) are at risk of progressive hip displacement. Early identification through an evidence-based hip surveillance program can result in timely intervention and improved outcomes. Dr. Vedant Kulkarni will present the evidence for hip surveillance and outline the management options once hip displacement has been identified. He will also demonstrate the use of the free HipScreen mobile app (www.hipscreen.org), which allows therapists and family members to learn about the evidence for hip surveillance, understand the surveillance recommendations, and even measure a hip x-ray from their mobile device. As part of the webinar, he will lead participants through a tutorial to use the HipScreen app in their own practice. Please download the HipScreen app for your Apple or Android device before the webinar to get the most out of the experience!
Following this webinar, the participant will be able to:
- Understand the evidence for a hip surveillance program in children with CP
- Identify strategies for treatment of hip dysplasia depending on the severity of displacement
- Utilize the HipScreen mobile application to quantify hip displacement
