Course Description

Idiopathic scoliosis encompasses 85% of those diagnosed with scoliosis. The Pilates environment provides a safe and effective venue to manage the condition for both adolescents and adults when used therapeutically as a part of a health care team. Learn the current theory of the pathomechanics and the various curve classifications. Scoliometer® use is presented as an accessible clinical rotation observation instrument. 3 concept tools useful in conservative treatment will be presented.



Suzanne Martin, PT, DPT, CLT, PMA®-CPT is a doctor of physical therapy and a certified Pilates expert, as well as an award-winning author and DVD-producer with Penguin Books. She has 30 years of experience in the health and movement fields, blending art and science into her instruction. Suzanne has accrued over 700 hours of continuing education credits and has logged over 500 teaching and presentation hours since her career change to physical therapy in 1997. She is ACSM -certified as a cancer exercise specialist and maintains a private Pilates/physical therapy practice, Total Body Development in Alameda, California. Also a performing arts specialist, she has been the lead physical therapist for Smuin Ballet in San Francisco for 15 years. Through Pilates Therapeutics®, she provides instructional DVD’s (available for CE credit), and mentoring courses in the therapeutic application of the Pilates Method and nutrition.
