Featured Researcher - Winter 2012/2013

Dr. Christopher Powers, PT, PhD, FAPTA

"The past 20 years have witnessed an unparalleled explosion of new knowledge related to the practice of physical therapy. Much of the success in the scientific domain can be attributed to the fact that the infrastructure to support physical therapy research has grown dramatically. To this end, the CAL PT fund has been at the forefront of this effort since 1977. By providing funding for emerging scientists and clinical scholars, the CAL-PT-Fund has played an important role in moving the profession towards autonomous, evidence-based practice. Supporting the CAL-PT-Fund is more than just a good thing to do, it is a professional obligation!"

"I am proud to have played a role in advancing the profession of physical therapy through research. In fact, my first grant was awarded from the CAL-PT-FUND. This grant provided me with the money necessary to complete my dissertation, which at the time was focused on better understanding the pathomechanics of patellofemoral pain. I am happy to say that I have been able to continue this line of research now for over 20 years. Importantly, I was able to leverage this relatively small grant into a productive research career including more than 100 publications and over a million dollars in federal funding. I am indebted to the CAL-PT-FUND for getting me my start!"
