House of Delegates

Plan for 2020 House of Delegates

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the Board of Directors has made the difficult but necessary decision to transition the in-person House of Delegates to a virtual format and cancel the NEXT Conference & Exposition in Phoenix and replace it with a separate virtual event.

The virtual House will occur over the scheduled June 1-3 dates. The Board recognizes that a virtual format cannot replicate the unique experience of having more than 400 delegates in the same physical location collaborating to advance our profession, but we are confident we can identify a virtual platform that allows the House to conduct its business.

Our top priority is to support elections and related candidate interviews, but there also will be time for voting on motions, and we will continue to use the House community and the consent calendar to allow the House to work efficiently. We also will provide instruction for motion makers who might be interested in removing motions from consideration this year to help the House prioritize its business...

California Representatives at the House of Delegates

The House of Delegates (House) is an APTA policy-making body comprised of voting chapter delegates, non-voting delegates (the Board of Directors and section, assembly, and PTA Caucus delegates), and consultants. The number of voting chapter delegates is determined each year based on membership numbers as of June 30.

About the House:

Any APTA member with a current membership card or with a pass obtained onsite from a student House usher may attend the House by sitting in its gallery (an area behind the ropes of the House proper).
