Course Description

As a member of the CPTA Ethics and Professionalism Council, the speaker will provide an overview of ethics and those principles most closely related to healthcare, along with presenting ethical decision-making models that can be used with a variety of practice and educational situations. A review of laws, regulations, and professional documents that support ethical and legal PT practice will be discussed in conjunction with several clinical and academic case scenarios.

 

Following this webinar, the participant will be able to:

1)    Use a systematic process to analyze and resolve ethical problems in clinical practice.

2)     Identify clinical practices that present ethical and legal risks and identify means to control or minimize those risks.

3)     Identify core professional documents and literature that provide guidance to physical therapists and physical therapist assistants in ethical and legal practice.

 

Speaker Bio

Georgeanne Vlad, PT, MA, is a graduate of Children’s Hospital Physical Therapy School and UCSB with a MA in Ergonomics. While currently an Adjunct Faculty member at both Chapman University in Irvine and Mount Saint Mary's University in Los Angeles, she has worked in academia for over 30 years as a full-time faculty member at the University of Southern California and Western University of Health Sciences teaching Ethics and Psychosocial Aspects of Healthcare, along with serving as the Interim Program Director, Associate Chair and Director of Clinical Education. She has been an APTA Trainer for the Credentialed Clinical Instructor Program for over 13 years. Georgeanne has served in the Assembly of Representatives for both the Greater Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley Districts for numerous years, to include SGV Chief Rep in 2016, along with having served on the GLAD Nominating Committee. She has presented at several CPTA Ethics Forums having been involved with the Ethics and Professionalism Council, formerly the Chapter Ethics Committee, starting as an Investigator in 2007 and as a member since 2012 to the present.
