This lecture will cover the current state of the literature on the topic of blood flow restriction exercise, and how it is being used in physical therapy. Special topics within that context that we will cover are a brief history of the technique, safety, what patients are appropriate, and how it can be used to provide an optimal stimulus for adaptation. We will close with where the literature is headed and what we envision for the future of BFR’s application by physical therapists and physical therapist assistants.
